Venter Hendrik Petrus

Age 81. Venter left his home property, the farm Kameelaar, at approximately 08:30 to travel to one of his other properties to pay employee wages and check on his livestock. At approximately 09:45, a neighboring farmer discovered his body lying next to his vehicle at an adjacent property gate. The perpetrators had ambushed Venter at the gate, robbing him of an undisclosed sum of cash intended for farm wages. He died from three severe trauma wounds to his head inflicted during the confrontation.The South African Police Service implemented an immediate 72-hour activation tracking plan. Following intensive community and civil safety collaboration, law enforcement units arrested four suspects: Kabelo Tata (26), Orabile Vincent Motsewakgosi (24), Potso Bogodile (21), and Jan Tata (18). The criminal proceedings suffered significant institutional delays; the case was temporarily removed from the court roll due to missing evidence, resulting in the suspects' temporary release before civil group pressure forced their re-arrest. The case was subsequently elevated to the Kathu Circuit High Court to face formal charges of premeditated murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances. The formal criminal trial commenced on 1 September 2026.
