Boshoff Ian

26 October 2024 · Snyman's Lodge, Buffelshoek, Parys · North West · Shot
Age 32. The thirty-two-year-old farm manager, originally from Bothaville in the Free State, lived alone on the game farm with his beloved dog, Buddy. The sudden horror unfolded when criminal intruders infiltrated the lodge homestead, catching the young manager off guard during a ruthless housebreaking and robbery. Ian was cornered by the attackers inside his home office and shot multiple times in his upper body. The assailants then ransacked the property, plundering two beds, mattresses, clothing, camp chairs, blankets, carpets, a television set, other electronic equipment, and Ian's firearms before stealing a Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to the lodge to make their escape. Concern arose the following morning when a professional hunter arrived with a group of prospective clients and could not reach Ian. A neighboring farmer went to investigate the silence and made the gruesome discovery around seven o'clock on Saturday evening, finding Ian lying dead in a pool of blood on his office floor. The North West Police Service immediately launched a massive manhunt, finding the stolen Land Cruiser abandoned along a road near Orkney the next day. A subsequent breakthrough occurred when tactical police units raided the nearby Ikageng settlement in Buffelshoek, apprehending suspects who were discovered in possession of the stolen household goods, ammunition, and the firearms taken from the lodge. In a shocking turn of events during their initial appearance at the Potchefstroom Magistrate's Court, one of the accused, Phafelo Israel Mboniswa, openly raised his hand in front of regional magistrate Shakeng Phillip Kutumela and confessed to the crime, stating plainly that he did it. He and his co-accused, William Johnson Mboniswa, faced severe charges encompassing murder, housebreaking, vehicle theft, and the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. While court proceedings continued into early 2025 with formal bail denials, Ian’s grieving parents, Bossie and Sonja Boshoff, along with his twin sister Natasha, held a deeply emotional memorial service in Bothaville to honor the life of a peace-loving and deeply missed young man.
