Enzer Valerie
14 July 2025 · Doring Kloof Farm, Van Wyksdorp · Western Cape · Strangled
Valerie Enzer (79) was brutally raped and murdered on 14 July 2025 on her farm, Doringkloof, located just outside Van Wyksdorp in the Little Karoo (Western Cape).
Valerie Enzer was of Scottish descent, a passionate horse lover, an artist, and a respected community member who had lived alone on her farm for 18 years. She was murdered using an iron chain. A farmworker discovered her body on the veranda of her house the next morning, after neighbors became concerned when she failed to send her usual daily messages. The attacker stole her laptop, cell phone, wallet, and handbag. He even used her bank card for a small purchase before distributing the stolen items to other people.
The police arrested a 17-year-old boy from the local area whom she knew. By law, his name cannot be published because he was a minor at the time of the crime. The court heard that he was already a source of concern in the community due to animal cruelty and the intimidation of local residents. The Western Cape High Court sentenced him in June 2026 under a plea agreement. He received 25 years of direct imprisonment for murder, 20 years for rape, and 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances. The sentences run concurrently, meaning he will effectively serve 25 years behind bars.
