Age 45. Molwedi was a highly respected farm foreman who had dedicated twenty years of service to the same farming operation. The property owner later described him publicly as the best worker he had ever employed, noting that Molwedi managed practically all daily operational and agricultural tasks on the farm. During the violent home invasion, a large, organized criminal gang raided the premises. The attackers shot Molwedi dead, while his thirty-four-year-old wife was brutally stabbed with a sharp object and sexually assaulted before the suspects ransacked the residence and stole twenty-two sheep.The South African Police Service, directed by Free State Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Solly Lesia, launched an immediate, highly integrated search operation alongside local community safety networks, neighboring farmers, and private security teams. Within hours of the crime, the combined operational forces executed a massive breakthrough, arresting thirteen suspects, consisting of eleven males and two females. Law enforcement officials successfully traced and recovered all twenty-two stolen sheep, a minibus vehicle, household items, and a firearm used during the deadly onslaught.The thirteen suspects were remanded in custody and formally processed to face charges of murder, attempted murder, rape, aggravated robbery, and stock theft in the Heilbron Magistrate's Court. Molwedi's tragic death sparked intense political condemnation and calls for heightened rural safety measures from organisations like Free State Agriculture. His name was officially added to the civil society memorial Muur van Herinnering (Wall of Remembrance) during a wreath-laying ceremony at the Nampo Harvest Day event in May 2026 to honor victims of rural violence.
