Mahne Attie

Age 77. At approximately 16:00 in the afternoon, Mahne stepped away from his farmhouse to check on his cattle. During his brief absence, two armed men breached the residence and held his wife, Pietro Mahne, at knifepoint before tying her up securely. When Mahne returned to the house, the intruders immediately confronted him, bound his limbs, and subjected him to a fatal, severe physical assault. The assailants ransacked the property and fled the scene with cellphones, an undisclosed amount of cash, and Mahne’s personal firearm, a .38 Special revolver. His wife managed to free herself from her restraints and immediately raised the alarm to the local farm watch network. Local neighboring farmers and the South African Police Service rushed to the scene where they found Mahne tied up and unconscious. Emergency Medical Services personnel attempted to treat him but subsequently declared him dead right at the scene.A highly intensive manhunt led by the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit, Tolwe detectives, and private safety organizations like Bosveld Plaasbeveiliging and Bosbeld Misdaad Ondersoeke resulted in prompt operational breakthroughs. In the early morning hours of Tuesday, December 2, 2025, law enforcement teams arrested the first suspect, twenty-eight-year-old Hendrik Chimole, while recovering Mahne’s stolen .38 Special revolver and six live rounds of ammunition. Chimole made his initial appearance in the Senwabarwana Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, where he was remanded in custody. Following continuous tracking, police operational teams executed a targeted raid in Lephalale and arrested a second suspect, a thirty-year-old male, on Thursday, December 4, 2025.
