Gevers Vivianne Alma

5 October 1997 · Paulpietersburg farm · KwaZulu-Natal · Shot
Age 60. he 60-year-old Vivianne Gevers was an established member of the local farming community and deeply tied to the community's local religious life. The circumstances surrounding her death reveal a brutal execution-style ambush rather than a prolonged home siege. On that Sunday, Vivianne Gevers attended a morning church service in the area. Immediately following the conclusion of the service, as she was outside the church building, she was confronted by armed attackers. In a shocking act of violence, the assailants forced the 60-year-old woman into a position of submission. Historical documentation presented in human rights assessments notes that she was shot execution-style while kneeling outside the church. The perpetrators fired two shots directly into her head at close range, killing her instantly, before fleeing the immediate vicinity.
