The perpetrators ambushed Peter Ellson and his wife, Anne Ellson (referred to in some early news records as Lucille), inside their bedroom. During the violent home invasion, both victims were severely hacked and slashed with pangas (machetes). Anne Ellson survived the initial attack but was left in a critical condition. Peter Ellson suffered devastating trauma from the assault and subsequently died in the hospital from panga wounds.
