Van Staden Bruno

21 July 2011 · Kameelfontein holdings, Pretoria · Gauteng · Shot
50-year-old Bruno van Staden was shot multiple times in the chest and arm and killed during a violent home invasion on his property in the Kameelfontein smallholding area, north-east of Pretoria. A gang consisting of five men wearing balaclavas forced their way into the residence, opened fire on him without hesitation, and then ransacked the home before fleeing the scene with cellphones and Bruno's personal firearm. Emergency medical services were dispatched to the smallholding, but Bruno van Staden succumbed to his extensive chest wounds and died on the scene before he could be airlifted to a trauma hospital by helicopter.According to Marie Kruger, who was the Kameeldrift Community Policing Forum chairperson at the time, the local community believed this specific gang was responsible for a wider crime wave in the area. Just prior to invading Bruno's house, the exact same five-man gang had targeted a neighboring property where they tied up and severely assaulted a domestic worker and a gardener, robbing them of their cellphones before moving directly onto Bruno’s property. Gauteng Provincial Police spokesperson Captain Pinky Tsinyane confirmed that cases of murder and house robbery were opened, but despite public appeals for information via Crime Stop, the suspects managed to evade immediate arrest.
