Janse Van Vuuren Maria "Marie"

On the tragic night of October 25, 2001, their peaceful life was violently shattered when perpetrators infiltrated their home and launched a savage attack against the elderly couple. The attackers ruthlessly overpowered both victims inside the farmhouse. Maria was subjected to a horrific ordeal, being severely assaulted and raped by her assailants before she was brutally murdered on the scene, succumbing directly to the trauma of the assault. Her seventy-three-year-old husband, Loek, was also tortured during the home invasion and suffered catastrophic injuries. Though emergency services rushed him to the hospital following the discovery of the crime, he fought for his life for exactly two months before finally passing away from his extensive injuries in December 2001.
