Mr Els’s son remembers: My father went out on the Sunday morning to milk the cows. On his way to the diary, 3 men waited for him behind an old wall and attacked him from behind. They used a pange that cut so deep, it penetrated both his lungs. They then proceeded to stab him and eventually shot him in the aorta with a firearm that they stole on the neighbouring farm. One of the men worked on the neighbouring farm. He managed to fire one shot himself but died of the serious wounds. All three the men were caught. One received the death sentence, which was never executed. The other two men were sentenced to 15 and 20 years respectively.
