Hills Pieter

The incident began when four men trespassed onto the property with the initial intention of stealing livestock. When the perpetrators failed to locate any sheep on the property, they pivoted their plan and chose to break into the farmhouse to stage an armed robbery instead. Pieter Hills was ambushed inside the home, tied up, and subjected to a violent assault. His son, Eddie, unknowingly walked into the house mid-attack and was immediately overpowered by the intruders. Pieter Hills was stabbed several times and shot in the head execution-style, dying at the scene. Eddie was stabbed severely in the chest and trachea and shot in the neck. The attackers demanded the keys to the firearms safe, stole at least three handguns, and fled the scene. The discovery of the crime was made later that morning by the family's domestic worker, who found Pieter's body and a critically injured Eddie. Eddie was rushed to a local hospital before being airlifted to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, where he was declared brain dead; he succumbed to his severe injuries several days later on November 9, 2020.
