Mende Jens

My uncle, Jens Mende, was born German. He was a very quiet, caring, calm, reserved person. There was no way anyone was begruntled towards him, I wonder if he ever raised his voice to anyone. He was an academic researcher at Wits university. He was murdered in his own house, on their plot, by two aggressors, while my aunt was in the house. After the two gun shots and hearing my uncle scream, she locked herself in the bathroom. She had an emergency alarm which also notified the police. The black men did not get to her but attempted to break down her door. They took only my uncle’s wallet. The one man was later caught, went free on bail and was never found again to our knowledge. At the time of his death, he was actively involved in academic research, and one of his highly regarded papers on empirical research was undergoing nomination for an international scientific compilation. Because of his sudden death, international publishers had to release his final work posthumously without his intended final edits. To honor his long-standing legacy and dedication to his students, the university later established the Jens Mende Memorial Prize, which is awarded annually to top-performing Information Systems honors students.
