The incident occurred after stray cattle entered his farm and damaged his crops. When Lengana impounded the livestock while waiting for the police, the cattle owner arrived with about 10 armed men. The group ambushed Lengana, shooting him multiple times and hacking him with machetes before fleeing the scene.
