Skhakhane Mbongeni
26 December 2025 · Mbutshana, Sweetwaters, Hilton · KwaZulu-Natal · Shot
Age 50. Sikhakhane was a highly respected leader in the South African agricultural sector, serving as the provincial KwaZulu-Natal chairperson of the African Farmers’ Association of South Africa (AFASA). At approximately 19:30 on the evening of the attack, a gang of four to five armed men ambushed Sikhakhane outside his residence. The perpetrators forced him inside the house, accosted his children, and cornered him in his bedroom. The attackers aggressively demanded money and his personal firearm from his wife before shooting Sikhakhane twice at close range in front of his family. The suspects then raided his nearby business shop on the property, but his daughter managed to lock herself inside a secure room, preventing further harm. Sikhakhane was rushed by emergency services to Life Hilton Private Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his fatal gunshot wounds later that night. The suspects ransacked the property, stole valuable items, and fled the scene using the deceased's private vehicle. Police tracking teams later located the vehicle abandoned in the nearby Ezibomvini area. The South African Police Service opened a murder and house robbery docket, and agricultural and political leaders—including uMngeni Mayor Chris Pappas—publicly condemned the tragedy.
