Schoeman Andries "Dries"

The assault occurred on June 21, 2017, at their farm Skoongezicht near Machadodorp in Mpumalanga. His wife, Mariaan Schoeman, was ambushed first by the attackers outside their home. When Dries arrived back at the house later, he was also ambushed, after which both were severely beaten with pieces of angle iron and bound with wire. Dries fought for his life in the hospital for more than two weeks with critical head wounds before passing away on the morning of July 9. His wife survived the attack despite suffering critical head injuries and brain bleeding. The police and local security groups later arrested several suspects connected to the robbery and murder.
